Bangkok is one of the world’s largest city. With more than 13 million inhabitants, it’s congested and often difficult to get around. That’s why most Bangkokians are either die-hard downtowners or died-in-the-wool suburbanites, when it comes to choosing a place to live. If you’re considering moving to Bangkok, Thailand, before you plump down money for an apartment or house, consider the following factors on living in downtown Bangkok versus living in the suburbs.
Getting to the airport for flights can take longer living downtown. In the suburbs, traveling to the airport by taxi is easy as you can take the tollway. From downtown, sure, you can take the tollways too but it can take you more than half an hour just to get out of downtown and onto them. The city’s rail link to Suvarnabhumi Airport has been finished but it’s not operational yet. Once it is, that will make traveling to the airport easier by train but not by car or taxi.
Jessica, my oldest granddaughter painted and drew so many things for me. She is an artist and someday she may be famous. I have a collection of her art work. It doesn’t matter if she gets famous or not, she is famous to me.
Do not travel in “prime time” like school holidays, New Year and Christmas. Slide the trip only a week “before” or “after”, and you`ll get up to 50% of all costs.
If you succeed in getting your car out of your parking spot your next endeavor is the slippery, icy, and still snow covered roads that will lead you to the main roads, which you hope, the plows have touched already. In most cases, they have not and you try to steer your car the best you can, while the entire time you are promising yourself that you will buy better snow tires next year. The car accidents are endless.

When many westerners hear ‘suburbs’ in Bangkok, they think of typical American or British suburbs with stacks of houses but not much else. Nothing could be further from the truth. I live in northern Bangkok in the suburbs yet, less than 5-10 minutes from my house, there are three enormous malls, four mega-supermarkets, south east Asia’s largest outdoor market (15,000 stalls!), two huge movie theatres, two bowling alleys, thousands of restaurants, 7-11s, parks, museums and more. Bangkok’s suburbs are often just an extension of downtown but without the high cost.
Alligator properties are not profitable for a variety of reasons. I am amazed at the number of investors who are not even aware that their property is losing money. If you have a property that might be losing money, then ask your real estate professional or accountant to perform a cost to income analysis. If it is indeed an alligator property — consider selling.
