Knowing your target market will have a big benefit as you find places that you can use your networking skills, but may also bring you some sales. Social sites, forums, and blogs are great ways to get free publicity and put your expertise to work.

Treat it like a business and not a hobby. When starting any new business you always start with a business plan. Online is no different, but there does happen to be a lot of intangibles that you must embrace to succeed.

Your website can either be in the form of a simple blog or as elaborate as a full-fledged e-commerce site. Whatever it is, you need a good, reliable, and cheap web hosting company to host your site. With thousands of web hosting companies out there, how do you choose one that meets your needs?

Try creating a different homepage for your blog. Most basic blog sites have the homepage set up as a generic list of your most recent posts. try spicing it up by making a custom homepage. This is especially helpful since you will most likely be found via links or search engines.

Finally, you must understand the difference between Efficient and Effective. Efficient means you are doing something very well. You might be efficient at looking through pictures on your Facebook account from your sister, however is that going to do anything for your business. Being Effective means that what you are doing is good for your business creating results. And you can be very effective on Facebook if you use it correctly, but that is another topic.
